The goal every year is to set my team up for the next 2 years. The winter meetings was almost a complete Our plan every year is to move contracts to extend our new contract for years 2011-12.. During meetings we veered away with the opportunity to grab 2 guys in the top 20. It cost our 1st which is a NEW 3 year but lucky we were able to trade back into the first.. My contracts I will assign this year will not be my best and might hurt me if I dont make moves during the year..
1.15 Carlos Lee OF HOU I love this pick. In fact I didnt have him on my list. I expected him gone. My 1st round list was Butler first then Haren and finally last Roberts.. Lee at the ripe age of 32 will get a 3 year. i guess people thought he was older. Why not take 1 300 28 100 season at the end of round 1.. He will get a 3 year
3.4 Andrew Bailey Rp OAK This was the hardest pick to make. One I wish i could switch but I took what I felt was the top Closer on the board. His skills are so dominating EVERY forecaster has him doing VERY well. It's not IF its when he will be lights out.. He's in line for a 2.
3.11 Asdrubal Cabrera 2B/SS CLE I wanted Cabrera all a long but my plan was to take him at 4.1. I was forced to move up and take him as I was looking for Wandy or Lackey.. He will give me either the 1-2 for the Indians or the 2-3.. Rither way having the combo is nice. I will enjoy the double steals they will do together with Sizemore. He will get a 2 year..
4.1 Jose Valverde RP DET Tough choice here.. The best value was catcher and SS and OF and I needed none of those. So I decided to grab another elite closer. Especially since I was not picking until end of round 5. Turns out it was a good decision. I will probably give him a 2 year..
5.11 Todd Helton 1B COL Here is a former elite 1B. His stock took a hit with a bad back but he still can hit for a high BA and drive in decent runs.. His one stat the most valuable which is BB. he will give me 90 BB. under-rated in our draft cause most dont think of that 6th stat..
6.11 Jeff Niemann SP TAM I think this was my worst pick. I went on a solid rookie season but some regression is in store. Should still give me a solid low 4's ERA and decent WHIP..
7.11 Chad Qualls RP ARI This pick came because he was the best available at that spot. I [icked 4 spots later but I had a feeling they were looking closer and they were. Qualls was the last questionable closer. having 3 is always good in a long season..
7.15 Cody Ross OF FLA under-rated OF. Solid 260 24 90 OF. I think most overlooked him because he plays for the Marlins.. Yet as a 6th OF can't go wrong.
8.11 Matt Thornton RP CHW With my team pretty much set except for SP and RP. We grab an elite MR. One that will give me a ton of K's and holds..
10.11 Juan Pierre OF CHW Here is one of my steals. I think most looked at him with last years part time stats and thought he didnt have a full time job.. Well he does and will run.. Not out of the question to see a 300 90 0 40 45SB. Not bad as a 10th rounder and 7th OF..
11.11 Bronson Arroyo SP CIN A decent SP. Seems like most of my SP are decent but not great since I am going to rely on my RP to carry the stats.
12.11 Carlos Delgado 1B FA Carlos was a gamble here. He was left for dead many rounds. Took a shot at a guy who could help at 1B or DH of the need arises. if not I lost a 12th round pick..
14.11 Sergio Romo RP SFG Continued with my theme of K RP and solid ERA/WHIP guys. Sergio will give me more then 1K per IP. Plus a decent amount of holds..
15.11 Kevin Gregg RP TOR Here is another steal. Now signed a decent contract with the Jays falls right in front for saves. A 4th possible closer in round 15!!!
16.11 Shaun Marcum SP TOR This guy was becoming a solid SP when he was hurt. Now back 100% might roound out my rotation having a diamond in teh rough..
17.11 Ian Kenndy SP ARI Another risky SP. Will be given a shot to start and has a very good skill set..
18.11 Aroldis Chapman SP CIN A lefty that can throw 100MPH is rare. He might start off in the minors but his stuff is electric.
19.11 Luis Castillo 2B NYM he fell to far in the draft. Came off a decent season will give me a back up at 2B. Since Cabrera also plays SS I have him for there.
20.11 Jim Thome DH MIN I am hoping that the reports of him really going to be the starting DH will give me a guy who hits 20+ HR's in round 20...
21.11 Scot Shields RP ANA here is another injury plagued RP. used to be elite until his knee problems. Now 100% will assume his 8th innnig duties..
25.9 Kelly Shoppach C TAM He could have his first full time gig if he wins it out of spring training.. If not just another WW material..
