New Jersey Makes Noise in 2006

The New Jersey Mets waste no time in making moves for the 2006 season. Trading Nomar Garciaparra and the 11th round pick in the 2006 draft for Aaron Boone and the #1 Overall pick in the 2006 draft. The Post talked to owner Mike Reynolds about his quick move for the 2006 season. " I felt the need to get the #1 pick overall to target Rich Harden as he is an up and coming SP. He had a great rookie start then struggled in his first year starting then last year was incredible. We feel his potential is still growing" said Reynolds. A 2nd ACE on the team will provide stability in the pitching staff. Something that was totally missed last year. After Zito the Mets had to keep changing but never found the right combo. The Mets moved Nomar Garciaparra to acquire that #1 pick. A player they just signed to a 3 year deal last year. He was supposed to be that all important middle infielder. "Nothing against Nomar in all but our teams issues coming into the winter meetings was SP and Speed". Stated Reynolds. When asked what their plans for the rest of the meetings he said "We got some deals on the table and working towards continuing to improve this ball club for 2006". The Mets also acquired Aaron Boone 3B. He will add depth to a team that has David Wright at 3B. We all need back ups and Boone will do a fine job if needed. He struggled in the 1st half after coming back from injury in 2004 but the 2nd half he turned up the heat and showed us Boone can come back. 280 8HR 34RBI. When asked what's next Reynolds said " We got a deal in the works and should know something in the next day or so".. Stay tuned..
